Rajgad (literally meaning Royal Fort) is one of the forts in the Pune district of Maharashtra state in India. The fort is around 1,400 m (4,600 ft) above sea level. Formerly known as Murumbdev; it was capital of the Maratha Empire during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for almost 26 years, after which he moved the capital to Raigad Fort. Treasure found at an adjacent fort was used to fortify this hill. The diameter of the fort at the base is 40 kms in perimeter making it difficult for anybody to lay siege to it, adding to its strategic value. The fort is located to the South West of Pune, in the Sahyadri's range. The highest part of the fort has remains of palaces, water cisterns and caves. The main entrance door is known as the Mahadarwaja. This fort is built on the hill called Murumbadevi Dongar (Mountain of the Goddess Murumba). Rajgad boasts of the highest number of days stayed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on any fort.

Sarasgad fort is the twin of Sudhagad fort. It can be identified by its four pinnacles and thus was mainly used as a watch place to check the surrounding region. On the way from the south, there are 111 steps carved in stone. Sudhagad, Sankshi fort, Sagargad and TailBaila can be easily viewed from the top of Sarasgad. There are many caves that were used for soldiers and other purposes because the fort has the very little area available on its top. There are around 10 tanks carved in rocks. They provide cool water supply throughout the year, which is very important for any fort.

Ghangad is a beautiful fort located in the heart of Lonavala region. This fort was used for keeping prisoners and for keeping watch on the trade route from Pune to Konkan. Until 1818 this fort was under the Maratha empire. This fort was surrendered to British forces after the fall of Korigad on 17March, 1818. The trekking path starts from the hillock south of the Ekole village. The route is very safe and wide. There are remains of few dilapidated building on the Bale killa.

It is located in the Western Ghats, within the Ahilyanagar district, and is part of the Kalsubai-Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. It is titled the 'Everest of Maharashtra'. It is visited throughout the year by avid trekkers, Kalsubai temple devotees and wild-life enthusiasts. The Summit provides a modest area of flat land which holds a sacred temple of a local deity 'Kalsai'. Local legend says that Kalsubai was a housemaid residing in a nearby village. She is believed to have disappeared near the mountain while trying to escape her employer's relentless torment. This lends the mountain its current name as well as a reason for this temple to be built in her fond memory.
