Description
Rajgad (literally meaning Royal Fort) is one of the forts in the Pune district of Maharashtra state in India. The fort is around 1,400 m (4,600 ft) above sea level. Formerly known as Murumbdev; it was capital of the Maratha Empire during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for almost 26 years, after which he moved the capital to Raigad Fort. Treasure found at an adjacent fort was used to fortify this hill. The diameter of the fort at the base is 40 kms in perimeter making it difficult for anybody to lay siege to it, adding to its strategic value. The fort is located to the South West of Pune, in the Sahyadri's range. The highest part of the fort has remains of palaces, water cisterns and caves. The main entrance door is known as the Mahadarwaja. This fort is built on the hill called Murumbadevi Dongar (Mountain of the Goddess Murumba). Rajgad boasts of the highest number of days stayed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on any fort.

Enjoy the rewarding moment when you reach the top ♦ The panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, now shrouded in the serenity of the night, are awe-inspiring ♦ The cool mountain air and the sense of accomplishment make the journey worthwhile. Will have campfire, share stories, fun activities ♦ As per our convenience one can take a sleep ♦ Morning 6 AM, wake up to experience one of the most beautiful sunrise ♦ After sunrise, have breakfast and get ready to start our fort exploration ♦ Visit Balekilla/Suvela machi, Sanjeevi machi, Pali darwaja, Padmavati temple and many more ♦ Start descending by 11 AM ♦ Reach parking point, move towards base village ♦ Have lunch at base village ♦ Start return journey to Pune with sweet memories of trek ♦ Reach Pune by 6 PM (+/- 1hr) Please Note: Cloud formation is a natural phenomenon and is subject to weather conditions. Based on insights from local guides and past experiences, this is the tentative time when such formations are typically observed. However, Team RAAHI cannot vouch for it as in certain cases due to climatic conditions/winds the cloud formation won't be visible.
